Type III
HUNT-Class Escort Destroyer ordered from
Cammell Laird, Birkenhead on 4th July 1940 in
the 1940 War Emergency Programme and laid down
as Job No 3964 on
14th October 1940. The ship was launched on
18th November 1941 as the 2nd RN ship to carry
the name,
previously used for a 1917 minesweeper sold in
1922. Build was completed on 29 March 1942.
The ship is named after a
Foxhunt in Leicestershire. Following a
successful WARSHIP WEEK National Savings
campaign in February 1942
she was adopted by the civil community of
Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire.

o s t W a r N o t e
s
HMS
BELVOIR Paid-off and was reduced to Reserve
at Portsmouth. The ship remained
there until 1950 when transferred
to Harwich. Two years later she returned to
Portsmouth and went into Extended
Reserve in 1955. Placed on
the Disposal List in 1957 she was sold to
BISCO for demolition by P & W MacLellan
at Bo’ness near
Edinburgh. The ship arrived at the breaker’s
yard in tow on 21st Oct.1957.
