S or SAVAGE-Class Destroyer ordered from Scotts of Greenock with 5th Emergency Flotilla on 9th January 1941. The ship was laid down on l4th August 1941 but not launched until 25th March 1943 due to serious design problems and the late delivery of armament and fire-control equipment. She was the fifth RN ship to carry this name, introduced in 1779 and last used by a WW1 destroyer, sold in 1934. Following a successful WARSHIP WEEK National Savings campaign in March 1942 she was adopted by the civil community of Prescot, Lancashire. Build was completed on 23rd December 1943.
