Ordered 9.12, pendant nos. 6A (1914), 93 (1.18), 45 (4.18). Launched 21.10.14 Vickers. 3,500 tons, 436(oa), 410(pp)x39x14ft. Turbine 40000shp, 29kts. Armament: 2-6in, 6-4in (altered to 3-6in, 4-4in, 2-3in AA), 8-21in tt. Armour: 3in sides, 1in deck. Crew: 276. 4th LCS, Grand Fleet 1915, then 1st LCS 1915-18, fitted for minelaying 8.17, 74 mines (5 operations, laid 358). Battle Honour (and link to despatches, casualties, awards) Jutland 31 May 1916. Sold 16.1.23 King, Troon. (British Warships 1914-1919)

Phaeton served with 4th LCS, Grand Fleet, February-March 1915 and then sent to Dardanelles until September. Returned to join 1st LCS Grand Fleet. Shot down L.7 with Galatea on 4 May and fought at Jutland later that month. Converted to lay 74 mines in August 1917, making five trips and laying 358 mines (including lay in Kattegat in March 1918). Transferred to 7th LCS, Grand Fleet, March 1918, then 2nd LCS, Harwich Force September 1919. (Battle honour - Jutland 1916). Paid off for 12-month refit February 1920, and then went into Reserve at Devonport. Put on Disposal List May 1922. (Conway's All the World's Fighting Ships 1906-21)
