Edgar-class, old 1st class cruiser

 

Class of eight ships, Endymion built by Earle, Hull, launched 22 July 1891, completed May 1894, 7,350 tons, 387ft long, armed with 2-9.2in/10-6in/12-6pdr/4-18in torpedo tubes, 20 knots, 544 crew.

 

Serving as a tender to HMS Wildfire at Sheerness for gunnery training in 1906, where she remained until 1912, when she joined the 3rd Fleet at Portsmouth. Commissioned in March 1913 as flagship, Vice-Admiral commanding the Queenstown Training Squadron; 10th Cruiser Squadron, August 1914-February 1915 and then rearmed and bulged for service in the Dardanelles (battle honour - Dardanelles 1915-16). Served in the Aegean in 1918 but returned to the Nore, where she paid off early in 1920. Sold March 1920 to Evans, Cardiff for breaking-up.
