The Sicilian and Neapolitan Troops engaged about 9 AM in the Plain, South of the City, and were still fighting at Meridian. A steamer of the Blockading Squadron lay close enough in shore, to participate somewhat in the action, while the rest of the Fleet, 2 Frigates, 8 Steamers and 3 Transport Brigs, lay to in the offing, five miles distant.

The Sicilian Barque "Julia" shifted her Berth, with assistance from this Ship. The Fight was hot up to 3 PM. At 4 the Firing had almost ceased. None of the Squadron were engaged.

Mdshp'n Mc Collum, to the assistance of the American Barque "Orleans St John" first after the Boat left the ship, she was struck by a heavy squall, and forced alongside of the Constitution, caught under her ~ fast, was capsized, and drifted to Sea. The crew was saved by the Constitution, Sent down lower Yards, and Topmasts, rigged in the flying Jib Boom, and unshipped the Spaner boom. Slipped her starbd. quarter fast, the Ship dragged within a few fathoms of the mole. There was also a general drag throughout the Harbour. A Greek brig afoul of the Constitution, and another just ahead of her Dragging.
